Himiway Forest Cobra: Exactly What an eMTB Should Be

by UK Himiway on Oct 12, 2023
Himiwway mountain bike

The electric mountain bike market is exploding! Almost every bike brand now offers various eMTBs, and the selection is expanding all the time. But how can you negotiate the maze of products, models, continual new releases, and special offers to discover the model that best suits your riding style? In this article, we'll explore what an eMTB is, its regulations, and why the Himiway Forest Cobra may be the best option for you.

What Is an eMTB?

When some people hear the term "electric mountain bike," they envision a motocross dirt bike. Motocross bikes are off-road racing motorcycles. eMTBs are similarly meant to go off-road, but unlike motocross bikes, which use an engine to propel forward motion, eMTBs rely on pedal force to move, just like a traditional bicycle.

What makes Electric Mountain Bikes so enjoyable to ride, in addition to one's own pedal power, is that they contain a battery and a small motor that gives different levels of assistance to make pedalling easier and/or more robust.

This makes an eMTB the ideal option for motocross or motorcycle riders searching for a fun, yet challenging workout to prepare for physically demanding track sessions. For travelling about the track, eMTBs are a terrific alternative to a gas-powered pit bike!

Many people will be able to extend their riding options and explore trails that were previously inaccessible. They can ride further, tackle steep hills that previously intimidated them, or even ride their favourite singletrack multiple times and have way more fun!

Do I Need a Driving Licence for an eMTB?

In general, you do not need a driving licence to ride an electric bike in the UK because they are subject to the same laws as normal bikes. However, some electric bikes for sale in the UK are capable of speeds exceeding 30mph; electric bikes are restricted to 15.5mph under current UK legislation. Although it is possible to de-restrict or tune electric bikes, riding on any public road or footpath immediately removes your compliance with UK legislation.

Which eMTB is Right for Me?

Do you want a bike that can replace a shuttle vehicle, one that allows you to complete the most vertical in the shortest period? Full-power eMTBs have the most powerful motors and largest batteries, resulting in the highest overall weights, which are often in the neighbourhood of 50 pounds.

For example, the Himiway Cobra has a 250W of peak motor power and a torque sensor, which means you can effortlessly traverse even the most difficult terrain.

If you want something more manageable, a mid-powered eMTB can still do a lot of climbing in a short amount of time. The normal power output ranges from 35 Nm to 60 Nm depending on the engine, which means that this sort of bike does not rocket up the hill in the same way that full-power options do. Their assistance is still evident; it's just more subtle, similar to a gentle but continuous push up a hill rather than a hard shove.

Despite the fact that more than 70% of riders want longer distance e bikes, the majority of e-bikes on the market can only travel 30-40 miles. Himiway e-bikes have a range that is 43% greater than comparable e-bikes on the market, with a range of up to 60-80 miles on a single charge. For example, the Himiway Cobra, a mid-powered e-MTB, has an estimated 80 miles per charge.

Key Features of the Himiway Cobra

If the Himiway Cobra seems like the eMTB for you, here’s a quick rundown of its key features and specs.

With 250W motor power and 86Nm motor torque, Himiway Cobra’s high-end geared hub motor features a redesigned inner ring, which allows for increased speed, faster acceleration, better performance on steep hills and rugged terrain, and the capacity to carry heavier loads.

The Himiway Cobra has a large 48V 20Ah (960Wh) capacity, which contributes to the overall weight. The long lasting battery is with an estimate of 80 miles per charge.

The Selle Royal Saddle has a comfortable design that is specifically designed for pressure reduction. The four-bar suspension design works well in rugged terrain and difficult g-outs. The sturdy aluminium crankset guards protect the chainring and support the chainstay when travelling through rough terrain. The 26 X4.8 all-terrain fat tire ebike delivers improved grip and traction on rough roads. These big tyres ensure your safety and provide a smooth and pleasant riding experience even in the most difficult terrains and weather situations.

Versatile Riding Modes and Adjustable Settings

The Cobra pedal assist is an operating mode that engages the motor to aid, but not replace, your own peddling effort. When you're riding your bike in pedal assist mode, you can change the settings to your liking. Himiway Cobra features five pedal assist levels that range from 1 to 5.

The throttle mode works similarly to how a motorbike or scooter works, eliminating the need to pedal or offering an extra boost just by twisting the throttle. With throttle mode, the Himiway Cobra can achieve speeds of up to 25 miles per hour, not only allowing you to travel quicker but also reassuring riders with extra power as needed, depending on traffic situations and rider energy levels. If you are an adventurer who seeks speed and distance without sacrificing comfort or safety, the throttle-assisted Himiway is the ideal companion.

In pedal-only mode, the Himiway Cobra electric mountain bike will perform like a normal bike, as you will be riding without any aid from the motor. This mode is extremely beneficial if your power runs out or if you want to do more intense resistance training.

The Himiway Cobra comes with a speed limiter, which can be easily adjusted on the control panel. The torque sensor monitors how hard you pedal and adjusts the motor power accordingly. That means you can change how much power you get just by changing how hard you pedal.

eMTB Riding Tips for Beginners

If you’ve never ridden an eMTB, or are new to electric biking, here are some tips to consider:

Always wear an appropriate cycling helmet and follow all helmet manufacturer guidelines for fit and upkeep. Riding without a helmet can result in serious injury or death.

In pedal assist mode, acceleration can be shockingly powerful because the motor assist will abruptly engage as you pedal.  As a result, please be cautious when riding. To avoid accidents caused by unexpected acceleration, use Pedal Only Mode (Pedal Assist level 0) when you need to ride at a slow speed to crossroads, at intersections, or when there is pedestrian traffic.

Using an off-road electric bike presents a variety of conditions and hazards and therefore requires close attention and specific skills to minimise potential risk.
Wear suitable safety equipment and avoid riding alone in remote areas.

Summary

With so many options available, choosing an eMTB can be difficult. It's also worth noting that, much like when you buy a car, the purchase isn't the end of the process. Regular inspections, maintenance, and consumable expenditures are all part of the overall operating costs. It’s good practice to explore your options before purchasing. Pay careful consideration to electric bike specs and features, and how they reflect your needs. The Himiway Cobra is a durable motorbike that offers a powerful drive system, a long-lasting battery, durable construction, and versatile riding modes. It may just be the eMTB for you!
